Crews handle multiple calls during Superstorm Sandy
Wed. Oct 31st 2012

On 10/29/2012, the entire region was bracing for Hurricane Sandy, and at Albrightsville Vol Fire Co, things were no different. Apparatus, tools, saws, generators and pumps were all re-checked and readied for service as well as crews manning the station around the clock to serve the community during the storm, and to keep open our Emergency Shelter for any displaced residents due to the storm. Albrightsville Firefighters responded to multiple incidents ranging from wires down, to transformers on fire, to trees down during the 48 hour span that Sandy lashed out in our area. Holiday Pocono, a populated development in our coverage area, was hit extremely hard, and is still recovering. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to those who were hit much harder than us in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

As you might know, firefighters can expose themselves to dangers beyond the actual fire that could be life threatening. Asbestos exposure, chemical toxins and carbon monoxide poisoning are only some of the ancillary dangers that put firefighters at risk.
